Briefly describe the status of your project (one paragraph).

Students will utilize the strategic planning process to work alongside restaurant owner / students / marketplace business to market school’s excess farm produce to be utilized in both the restaurant and market due to increased demand in locally sourced produce.  The lack of produce at this business establishment is due in large part to the fear of contracting Covid-19 at large supermarkets in the city. Many customers have resorted to shopping nearby in less populated markets in their local communities and local business owners cannot keep up with the demand, especially for fresh produce.    Students will actively assess produce desired, research production methods, produce, harvest, sanitize and then assist in marketing the produce to said vendor.

List down at least three successes (what worked well).
  1. Sat with the business owner and developed a strategic plan for production on the primary crop (lettuce) for use in salad.
  2. Successfully produced the first lettuce crop without GEER funds in place.
  3. Students developed their own signature invoice.
List down any “surprises” or something that you were not expecting (positive, neutral, or negative).
Example: It was easier to find a small business partner than we expected.

Our first business partner declined our proposal after many hours of meeting due to “proprietary” concerns and potential covid infection to his family and staff.  See below:

Students will utilize the DTP process to work alongside restaurant owner / farmer / marketplace business to design social media campaigns and support (s) to market excess farm produce utilized in both the restaurant and market.  This excess is due in large part to the fear of contracting Covid-19 many customers have in gathering in an enclosed marketplace, such as the one located at Dimple Cheeks, therefore sales are down and much of the produce is thrown away.   Students will actively advertise and then assist in marketing the excess produce in an open air venue on campus (such as the bus ramp ) for drive thru service of CSA packages  / boxes ranging in price depending on seasonal produce availability and size of packages / boxes.

Please attach a few brief comments from students about the project. Use the format(s) of your choice.  For example, you could use the following formats: student reflections, status reports, student interview (short answers), graphics, etc.
