PART I:  PROJECT WITH SMALL BUSINESS OR NON-PROFIT IN THE COMMUNITY
Name of your project: Maui High School Students Work with Ichiban Restaurant & Sushi Name(s) of your partner(s): Ichiban Restaurant

Briefly describe the major project (one paragraph):

Support a small, local restaurant, Ichiban with social media and updated menu, signage to help bring in business due to Covid.

Owner is a MHS alum.

Students will work with the owners of Ichiban restaurant by managing their social media accounts and creating new menu graphics and images to advertise their small business. Covid closed their doors for a period of time and since reopening, it has been difficult to get people to come back and enjoy their food and feel safe.

List at least three things that went well:
  1. Interviews with the owners and creating video
  2. Students learned about the business and themselves in pushing themselves to meet demands and needs of the client by deadlines.
  3. Both the business and students can see the successes of their work.
List two or three challenges:
  1.  Meeting deadlines - working with teenagers over breaks was a challenge since students didn’t always show up
  2. Building confidence - these students are good in editing and graphic design but they didn’t think they could do this so the teachers/PTTs had to constantly give them feedback and support to get them to finish.
What was a lesson(s) learned?  (one paragraph)

A lesson learned was the importance of working together and believing in each other. These young students were also affected by Covid and missed out on learning about editing and other graphic design skills since they were virtual for almost 2 years. However, they learned to persevere and write up interview questions and work with clients to deliver their passion to our community audience.
