Summary of Progress

Kohala High School is committed to providing an engaging, meaningful and rigorous program for students within a standards-based learning environment and Academy School Framework. 

The school has a strong academic core program and offers a range of college courses within the daily schedule. Through the Academy of Sustainability, Kohala High utilizes Career and Technical Courses in Culinary, Residential and Commercial Construction, Health Nursing Services and Natural Resources Food Production to engage and connect student learning to real life experiences. Music and Art classes complement the elective program. Online classes are available to help individualize and expand upon students’ learning options. 

Kohala High takes advantage of their smaller school environment to personalize learning and create supportive pathways for all students so they can reach their full potential. 60% of the graduating class of 2024 had a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Of the 62 graduates, 54 completed a Capstone Project and 63% of the students graduated with some type of recognition of academic excellence. 

We believe in supporting the whole child and also strive to develop students’ character and emotional well-being. Kohala students emulate our motto “Rise to the Challenge, Cowboys!” as they show strength and growth in their ability to regulate their emotions and persevere through setbacks.
