MISSION Encouraging partnerships among students, parents, faculty, staff and community by offering a curriculum which will address multi-intelligences and awareness; providing a safe environment which expects mutual respect; providing opportunities where all students can develop their gifts and talents to be productive members of the community. |
Kealakehe High opened its doors in August 1997, welcoming its first 9th grade class (class of 2001), with a student enrollment of 407 students. Currently, the enrollment hovers around 1,600 (9th-12th grade).

Located in West Hawaii, Kealakehe serves a geographic district approximately 40 miles wide, encompassing the communities of Kailua-Kona, Holualoa, Waikoloa, and Puako and is the largest geographic school district in the state. Five schools, including Kealakehe High, Kealakehe Intermediate, Kealakehe Elementary, Holualoa Elementary, and Kahakai Elementary, form the membership of the West Hawai’i Area Complex.
Kealakehe High School has undergone a period of exciting transformation, implementing several significant changes and developments that have significantly impacted the school and its curricular programs. Recognizing the importance of preparing students for the ever-evolving demands of the future, the school has championed real-world learning applications. This commitment is evident in the introduction of specialized academies focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Sustainable Communities, and Creative Arts, and Leadership (CAL). These academies provide students with in-depth exposure to relevant fields, fostering a deeper understanding and igniting passions that can translate into future careers. Furthermore, existing programs like Career and Technical Education (CTE) have been bolstered, ensuring a well-rounded curriculum that equips students with not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills highly sought after in the workforce.
