Kealakehe High School Improvement Status

Summary of Progress

Recent Achievements and progress:
As we emerge from the effects of Covid 19, we continue to work with both teachers and staff to develop hands on learning opportunities, rigorous coursework, and a positive culture for all stakeholders. We place a strong emphasis on Social Emotional Learning and the importance of building relationships with students, staff and the community. Kealakehe High School will also be moving to a comprehensive academy model in SY22/23 instituting the following academies; STEM, Sustainable Communities, Global Leadership and Finance, and the Freshman Academy. Students will be enrolled in the pathway which best meets their educational goals. Kealakehe also offers a broad range of core and elective courses, including Career and Technical Education, the arts, music and foreign languages. In addition to foundational courses, Honors and Advanced Placement courses are also offered

The school Instructional Leadership Team continued its work with the whole school instructional initiatives to increase student learning. This year the focus was on “Learning Targets and Student Engagement” as teachers worked to ensure that every day in class and on line students and teachers partnered to ensure that each day learners were aware of the learning goals and how to meet them. The school also introduced Ninth Grade Academies and is pursuing a more inclusive Pathway Program paradigm to meet the needs of all students.

Over the past several years the school has undergone a transition in staff due to retirement and relocation. In response, the school continues to increase its support of new staff through complex and school level Induction Programs. There has also been assistance to the school from Department of Education curriculum specialist. The school also underwent a successful WASC Self-Study accreditation visit in March of 2021. .

The school’s School Community Council continues to meet and work on providing input on the Academic and Financial Plan, as well as sharing feedback from all stakeholders to school leadership.
