Summary of Progress
Kalāheo High School 11th grade students participate in the Hawaii Statewide Assessment Program. The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics align to the Common Core State Standards and measures “on-track” readiness for college and career. The Science Hawaii State Assessment (HSA) is aligned to the NGSS and measures student knowledge and skills. Kalāheo High School students who met or exceeded proficiency on the English Language Arts Smarter Balanced Assessment was 75% which exceeds the state average by 15%. The number of students who met or exceeded proficiency on the Mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment was 38% which exceeds the state average by 12%. The number of students who met or exceeded proficiency on the Science Hawaii State Assessment was 34% which is on par with the state average. Performance on the English Language Arts state assessment is among the highest in the state. The achievement gap between the Non-High Needs and High-Needs groups decreased from 26 to 20 points in Language Arts and decreased from 29 to 10 points in Mathematics from the previous year.
The state provides all juniors the opportunity to take the ACT in February. The ACT test measures student readiness for college. Of the 118 Class of 2022 Seniors who took the ACT exam, 48% were ACT College Ready in English, 24% were ACT College Ready in Math, and 32% were ACT College Ready in Science.
On time promotion from ninth to tenth grade has ranged from 95% - 97% for the past four years. The number of students who graduated has fluctuated the past five years between 88% and 96%. Over 59% of Kalāheo students complete a Career & Technical Education program by the 12th grade. Students who enrolled in postsecondary institutions the fall after graduation increased from 54% to 65% from the previous school year.
For the last four years Kalāheo High School’s average daily attendance has been around 94%. The number of students who missed 15 or more days of school has increased over the last three years. Last year the rate increased to 23% from 13% the previous school year. Kalāheo High School’s graduation rate is 90%.
