Baldwin High School School Improvement Status
Summary of Progress
H.P. Baldwin High School is actively involved in the Maui Complex BKKM (Because Knowledge and Kindness Matters) process.
Baldwin High School leaders are competent about decision making and leading the school in order to fully implement Common Core State Standards in the classroom. In the spring of 2019, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) visitation team focused on learning at the school and earned a six-year accreditation with a mid-cycle two day visit. The school completed the WASC Mid-Cycle Review October 17-19, 2022. We will continue to work on the WASC recommendations centered around curriculum, instruction and assessment as we prepare for our upcoming WASC six-year accreditation visit in 2024-2025.
Baldwin High school faculty will continue to make student centered decisions to maximize student achievement in Math, Science and ELA. All staff will continue to sustain positive student and adult relationships through incorporating student voice and HA. Continued course offerings in the CTE pathway will support students’ future career choices which aligns to the school’s academy exploration. The vision now is “Ne‘epapa: move forth together as a unit with intention.”
Baldwin High School’s three main goals are:
- We will move our collective work to become a wall to wall Academy school.
- We will increase our reading, math and science scores by 3% as evidenced by SBA.
- We will provide SEL for all via the HA framework.
Baldwin High School will continue to implement professional development (PD) on student voice, inclusive practices and HA/SEL and positive school culture using the Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) process. Additional professional development items include academies and bell schedule changes. PD will be conducted throughout the day in department meetings. After school hours will be dedicated to student focus team (SFT), IDEA and 504 meetings to ensure growth, collaboration sessions to showcase student work, continuation of faculty learning on PD topics, and teacher office hours to support student learning.
The school’s Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) will explore how professional opportunities directly impact teacher instruction and outcomes of student learning. Teachers will be provided opportunities to visit classrooms and observe how effective strategy implementation may be incorporated into their practice.
Our school will continue providing students the opportunity to initiate projects and gain leadership experiences within varied learning environments. These opportunities include: Project/Problem Based Learning (PBL), Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) class, podcast for students to communicate to school, community and other stakeholders and a student leadership opportunity within all content areas.
